Urban Impact is dedicated to equipping youth in urban neighborhoods to grow, succeed, and become the leaders we believe God has created them to be. We believe, as scripture affirms, that youth are assets in our community and deserve equitable access to new opportunities.
Camp Hero, a nonprofit mission based in McKee, Kentucky, provides retreats, hunting trips, camping trips, and outdoor experiences for wounded veterans and first responders. They graciously invited our Urban Impact team to join their staff and volunteers for a fun-filled fishing trip to Jacobson Park.
For many of the youth we serve, this was their first-time fishing. Thanks to Camp Hero and our dedicated Urban Impact volunteers, they wasted no time in catching their first fish the moment we arrived at the lake.
As the day wound down and campers started to pack up, something extraordinary happened. One of our campers, with an overly excited look on his face, began struggling to stay balanced as a fish tugged on his line for the first time that day. With the help of Camp Hero volunteers, he managed to pull in a 17-inch fish, the biggest catch of the day and his first fish ever!
Urban Impact remains committed to organizing trips and camps throughout the summer, continually fostering leadership skills and personal growth among our youth. We thank Camp Hero for investing with us and fostering a fun environment for youth to experience growth and success!
